Here is a chance to become the proud owner of a Shivrai coin. The Shivrai coins were minted during the rule of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj. They were in circulation till the end of the 19th century.

Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj was born in the fort of Shivneri, which is located in Pune, Maharashtra. He was the founder of the Maratha Empire. In the year 1674 AD, he became the Chhatrapati of his realm at Raigad.

In his entire life, Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj was interested in religious teachings, as his mother Jijabai was extremely spiritual. Shivaji was a great warrior and spent his entire life for the development of the Maratha Kingdom and identity of the Marathas.

The Indian government has built numerous statues and monuments across India, especially in the cities of Maharashtra. They have issued several postal stamps and coins to commemorate Shivaji Maharaj.

The Shivrai coins were issued in Gold, Silver, as well as Copper. There were approximately 150 different varieties of Shivrai coins minted. Among these varieties, the Shivrai Gold and Silver coins (also known as Shivrai Hoan or Hun) were minted when Shivaji became Chhatrapati of the Maratha Empire in the year 1674 AD. The Shivrai Hoan is rarely available for sale.

The copper coins; also known as ‘Shivrai’ have Shri / Raja / Shiva inscribed in three lines on the obverse and Chhatra / Pati inscribed in two lines on the reverse in Devanagari script.

The Shivrai coins were minted in one paisa, half paisa, and quarter paisa denominations. Among these, the half paisa and quarter paisa are very rare to acquire.
